Communion and Liberation began in Italy in 1954 when Fr Luigi Giussani established a Christian presence in Berchet High School in Milan. At first the group called itself simply Gioventù Studentesca (Student Youth). "GS" has remained a nickname for the experience of Communion and Liberation on the high school level ever since. After 50 years, the friendship of those high school students with Fr. Giussani has spread to people of all ages all over the globe and today it is present in over 70 countries and more than 20 states around the US. The community of GS gives teens a place to help recognize Christ's presence in all aspects of their lives as they begin to ask some of life's serious questions as a teenager. What is the point of school? What does it mean to be truly happy? How do I know that this is love?
Who is it for? GS is open for any youth who is entering into 9th grade up to 12th grade. The GS group in Rochester meets Saturday night at Pax Christi. We have hiking trips and other community activities each month as well as a yearly winter and summer vacation with "GS" groups from all over the United States.
