Communion and Liberation began in Italy in 1954 when Fr Luigi Giussani established a Christian presence in Berchet High School in Milan. At first the group called itself simply Gioventù Studentesca (Student Youth). "GS" has remained a nickname for the experience of Communion and Liberation on the high school level ever since.  After 50 years, the friendship of those high school students with Fr. Giussani has spread to people of all ages all over the globe and today it is present in over 70 countries and more than 20 states around the US.

Who is it for?  GS is open for any youth who is entering into 9th grade up to 12th grade.  The GS group in Rochester meets Saturday night at Pax Christi.  We have hiking trips and other community activities each month as well as a yearly winter and summer vacation with "GS" groups from all over the United States. New youth are always welcome.

Charitable Works:  The proposal of charitable work, which has involved tens of thousands of youths and adults ever since the beginning of GS, has always been clearly explained. It is not a matter of doing philanthropic projects or claiming to offer exhaustive answers to needs that are often vast and complex, but of learning, through faithfully performing an exemplary gesture, that the ultimate law of existence is charity, gratuitousness.  Our GS community in Rochester proposes charitable work at the Sunday Lunch Program at St. Francis Church.  Upcoming dates:  Jan. 4th, Feb. 1st, March 22nd and May 31st.
